Jasmine walked through the halls quickly, trying hrd to ignore all the sniggers and cruel jokes being shiuted at her. Every since she was five years old she'd been mute, she could see, she could hear, she could feel, but for some reason she couldn't speak. "Hey Jaz, you wanna help me with my speach? Wait, sorry, guess you need more help than I do." a boy behind her sniggered. "Jasmine!" a girl called, " I'm trying out for chorus, you going to also? Oh, you're going to say no, right?" she and her group of friends burst out laughing as Jasmine hurried away. Traitor tears threatening to spill down her face.

"You're horrible! Stop teasing her!" Cassie cried, slapping the guy who had teased Jasmine. "We're through, you good for nothing queer bag!" she yelled and stalked away, holding her head high.
"And as for you, bitch. Leave Jasmine alone or you can kiss your little popular reputation goodbye." Cassie hissed. She smirked as the girl gasped and ran away.
"God I hate being mean to people..." she murmured to herself, leaning against the wall.

Jasmine glanced at Cassie, wide eyed, before she vanished into an empty classroom, running behind an old teachers desk, and leaning against the wall, sobbing silently.

Cassie got to her feet and gasped when she found her friend, Dylan, standing in front of her. "That was... Really brave what you did back there. Sticking up for Jasmine was a huge risk." he said, giving her a nudge on the shoulder.
She smiled. "It was nothing." Cassie answered, blushing a little as she tucked a part of her hair behind her ear.

Jasmine trembled as she tried to compose herself. She just wanted to go home. She hated it here. She had no friends, no one who would even glance at her, without spitting out some stinging comment. She hated this, she hated herself. Why was it her that had to lose her voice! She'd had friends before, but then, once they'd realized she was 'different'. WHY!

"After school today, a few of us are going over to the Malt Shop. Wanna come?" Dylan asked as they walked down the hall.
"I'd love to go!" Cassie said and smiled. Dylan smiled. "Great. I'll pick you up at 5 o'clock." he said.

"And you can bring Jasmine if you want. Kevin thinks she's cute." Dylan added. Cassie smiled.
"Yeah. I'll go ask if she wants to come." Cassie said. I want her to feel like she's welcomed here. She just needs a group of friends she can hang out with. She thought as she walked away to go find Jasmine.

Jasmine curled in a tighter ball on the floor, trying to swipe the tears from her eyes before someone would notice her in here. She banged her fist hard on the floor in frustrstion, and her bracelet hit the tiles with a loud clang.

She smiled slightly, wiping the remaining tears from her cheeks, and nodded. She was never asked to go out and do anything with anyone but her family since she was six. Not even a birthday Party.

She nodded, smiling, grabbed ehr books, and headed out the door, she was going to go home early.
