(Something tells me you're not using the computer) He heard the unmistakable sound of metal that announced her arrival into the barn. He quickly averted his eyes away from the husky. She was what his master(he thought that with a rather lot of scorn) would have called a 'purebreed', descended from an 'unpolluted' line, clean, deserving every little bit of attention. Mongrel - that was him, a dirty creature that was only fit to fed with pain, a creature to be starved, kicked, lashed at.
Unconsciously during his furious thoughts, he started growling.

The mixed blood he had gave him a smaller than average stature, plenty of fur (totally mixed, jumbled up colors) and a very short tail. He could sustain himself off the waterfowl that lived by the pond, the abundance of mice, lizards and the occasional rabbits. Whatever he foraged everyday, it was still a great deal more than what the 'master' fed him.
Looking back at the husky, he studied the whimpering figure at the other end. Purebreed or not, she reminded him of himself. Of the many times he had backed up in a corner, shivering as the hand reached for him, claws.

A red boarder collie padded into the barn. She carried two plump rabbits in her jaws she'd just caught. She padded over towards the mutt, dropping the smaller of the rabbits at her own feet, then with a flick of her head, tossed him the fatter of the two. She knew he didn't get fed as well as the better bred dogs, so she always made sure whenever she could hunt(she wasnt bred for it but she grew up loving it) she made sure to bring him some back as well. She lay down across from him, and bit down into the meaty juicy rabbit, tearing off the meat in strips, and carrying half of it over to the husky, since both of them had been fed plenty earlier, it was probably more of a snack for both of them, then lying back down across from the mutt again.

The sleek pelt that whizzed by was a cat. As small and young as she was, she was something to be feared in these parts. The cat quickly unhooked the dog with a swipe of her paw and the jumped up the hay bales to a beam that crossed over the broken stalls. She sat down and licked her paws. "If I wasn't such a nice cat, I would have scratched that mutt's muzzle on my way up here." she muttered to herself.
The dog slowly approached the large group, cautiously placing her paws. Her folded ears were as upright as they could be to listen for any suspicious sounds. She was a purebred Sheltie whose master also owned the mixbreed dog. Her master had always been more kind to her because of her bloodlines and was always cruel to the poor other dog. She felt bad that her life was soft and pampered while his was hard and cruel.

How the collie could have caught so much, he would never know. It was only on the best of days that he could get two rabbits. Handing him one of the rabbits just like that - was probably an act of kindness, but in his eyes it was a well-aimed blow to his self-esteem. Useless mutt... He automatically cringed at hearing the master's 'voice', even if it was only in his head, only memories. He directed his attention back at the rabbit. It was a stab to himself, but he had learned not to pass off a chance at food. He saw the cat's dark outline dart into the barn. Anyway, the felines would just take it if he didn't. He tore into the meat, taking everything that could be taken. He stopped, and looked up. The purebreed. He got up from his corner, and slinked past her without a glance, in the way only an animal avoiding the ever-greedy 'claws' could.

She could see in his eyes the blow she'd caused him. She was only trying to help. It's not that she thought he couldnt handle himself, just that she'd happened to be out hunting anyways.

"Avi! Heel!" came the master's voice from the front of the house. The Sheltie's ears perked up and she trotted up to the human, her tag on her collar jingling. She looked up at the man as she sat down at his side. "Good girl." the man said and patted her head softly as he turned to go inside.

The Collie licked her chops and bounded after the man, barking and wagging her silky tail. Her name was Ancale meaning Radiant. She jumped up, bouncing a few steps on her front paws in front of her master. She knew how unfair he was to some of the animals, but she still loved him, for he was the only family figure she had, after her mother had abandoned her just outside the barn where she'd given birth to her, and merely left her in the cold. That was when her master found her and took her in.

Avi jumped back down the stairs and trotted off to follow the mutt. When she caught up to him, she stopped and hesitated before saying, "Umm... Hi." She was prepared for a negative reaction or none at all from him.
The cat jumped down from the rafters to clean up the scraps. He licked his lips clean and then walked leiserly towards the fields to find some mice to prey on. The scraps hadn't satisfied his hunger. His white tail tip flicked back and forth as he disappeared into the golden grass, his ginger pelt blending with the colors.

(I'll make up a little background, tell me if it conflicts with what you planned) This, of course, was not where they really lived. This was merely a place to 'escape from the city'. The master brought them to this location once in a while. With so many dogs to transport, and to provide a relatively comfortable journey for the master, a trailer was a logical choice (is it?). There were mainly three sections. Of course, the servant drove in the front section, while the master relaxed in the middle compartment. The dogs were situated at the back, each with their respective beds. He, of course, was not included in the list of dogs. He only got here by sneaking on at the last second, and hiding inside a raised cabinet, of which the master never used.

(I was thinking that the master lived with the dogs at the house across the street and he brings them here because he needs to let them exercise. They live in a big mansion and the purebreeds have their own floor for themselves and the mutt has to sleep out in the backyard. Wait scratch the idea about the neighbor thing. The barn is on their large property and the mutt is confined to an area around there.)
Avi looked at the mutt. "You know, the polite thing to do is say hello back when a person greets you." she said. Avi shook her fur and scratched herself behind her ear.
